China is about to open the market of 100 billion industrial robots?

2018.10.15

Today, China's manufacturing industry faces serious challenges! The status of the former "world factory" is in jeopardy. More and more manufacturing companies have moved to Southeast Asia and other regions. The domestic manufacturing industry has shown a "recession tide". The main reason is that the labor cost of China has risen rapidly and the demographic dividend has basically disappeared. Manufacturing, this industry that once created China's 30-year economic glory and served as the lifeblood of China's economy, where to go?
Cost reduction, efficiency improvement and upgrading are the only way for the manufacturing industry, and “machine substitution” is an inevitable choice for many manufacturing industries.
Based on the above background, the author has studied and researched the high-end equipment manufacturing industry (including the robot industry) in the Pearl River Delta, the Yangtze River Delta, and the Northwest in the past five years, and made some preliminary analysis for the reference of interested parties.

robot
A robot is a machine that automatically performs work. It can accept human command, run pre-programmed procedures, or act on principles that are based on artificial intelligence techniques. Its mission is to assist or replace the work of human work, such as production, construction, or dangerous work. Robots are essentially automated devices, so in general, automation devices are counted as a robot.

What are the robots?
Chinese robotics experts start from the application environment and divide robots into two categories, industrial robots and service robots. The so-called industrial robot is a multi-joint robot or a multi-degree-of-freedom robot for the industrial field. Industrial robots can be roughly classified into welding robots, handling robots, painting robots, assembly robots, palletizing robots, automatic tractors (AGV) robots, etc., while service robots are used in addition to industrial robots. Manufacturing and serving all kinds of advanced robots for human beings, including: home service robots, drones, unmanned vehicles, medical robots, etc.

Three major factors drive the rapid development of the Chinese robot market: 1. Labor costs are rising rapidly. 2. Labor shortage. 3. The upgrading of manufacturing industry needs, “machine substitution” is not just a substitute for labor, but also an important means to improve manufacturing efficiency and flexibility and improve product quality.
In 2012, the installed capacity of robots in China was about 27,000 units. In 2013, it was about 37,000 units. In 2014, it was about 57,000 units. It is estimated that there will be about 85,000 units in 2015. The compound annual growth rate for 2012-2015 is over 50%. The Chinese robot market accounts for about a quarter of the world's total, but foreign robots (including the four major families: ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, and Fanuc) account for more than 90% of the market in the Chinese market.
With the rapid development of the Chinese robot market, the average annual growth rate is expected to be 20-30% in the next 10-20 years. By 2020, the robot market will reach 200 billion yuan.

Domestic industrial robot enterprise status
The five core technologies of the robot: servo system, controller, core algorithm, precision reducer, precision sensor. However, the five core technologies are basically monopolized by foreign companies. Chinese local robot companies occupy less than 8% of the domestic robot market. Chinese robotics companies are basically doing robot system integration and application (such as Guangzhou Minghao), and also research and development motors (such as Huichuan), reducer (Qinchuan), controller (solid high), and ontology (Eft), domestic robot companies are generally in the early stage of the development of the robot industry, lacking core technology, and more on low-end applications.

Domestic industrial robot development direction
1. Focus on core technology breakthroughs, such as precision reducers and machine vision.
2. System integration and application, giving play to the advantages of local enterprises close to customers, tailoring robots or automation transformation solutions according to customer production needs, and providing on-site services in time. Be a "customer transformation partner around the customer." 3, economical robot body, research and development of low-end, cost-effective robot body, allowing customers to recover their investment in about 2 years. Such as the production of low-cost 6-axis joint robots, truss robots and so on.

Manufacturing is the lifeblood of China's economy. Manufacturing is self-reliant and automation is the key. Chinese robotics companies have a long way to go!
